Images from the scene show what happened. The nose of that Air Canada Express plane was left suspended in mid-air.
At the time of the accident, which occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, there were 72 people on board. The plane was traveling at approximately 25-30 mph when the fire truck was responding to another incident and the collision occurred.
An investigation is now underway, with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration trying to determine what led to the communication failure.
The FAA has suspended all flights at LaGuardia Airport at least until 2 p.m. on Monday.
We’ll keep you updated throughout the morning on what this means for those traveling from Logan. As of 6 a.m., Flight Aware was reporting 24 cancellations and 15 delays.
